Outdoor Dining Tables for New Zealand Summers

The dining table is the heart of an outdoor gathering, the piece everyone draws around for a long lunch, a casual dinner or an evening that stretches on well after the plates are cleared. Our outdoor dining tables are chosen for exactly that, built to look beautiful and to stand up to the New Zealand climate, season after season. The range spans compact tables for smaller decks through to generous designs for a crowd, in a choice of shapes and materials to suit your space. Every table is sold individually, so you can pair it with the dining chairs and benches that work for you, and build an outdoor dining setting that is genuinely your own.

Choosing the Right Size and Shape

The right table comes down to how many people you seat, how you like to entertain, and the space you have to work with.

Round Outdoor Dining Tables

Round dining tables suit smaller or square spaces, and are wonderful for conversation, with everyone sitting an equal distance apart and no corners to work around. A round table is an easy, sociable choice for four to six.

Rectangular Outdoor Dining Tables

Rectangular dining tables make the most of a longer deck or patio, seat more people, and give you plenty of surface for platters and sharing. They are the most versatile shape for larger families and gatherings.

Extendable Dining Tables

Extendable dining tables offer the best of both, with a compact everyday footprint that opens up when guests arrive. Our extendable Vigo, for example, extends up to 3300mm, seating a generous crowd when you need it and tucking back down for day to day.

The Brands Behind Our Outdoor Dining Collection

Our outdoor dining tables come from a considered mix of brands, each with its own take on design and material. Otazen and Devon bring beautifully crafted teak tables with natural warmth and character, with Otazen exclusive to McKenzie & Willis in New Zealand. Du Soleil, our own outdoor living brand, offers dining tables in both teak and powder-coated aluminium. Woven+ spans teak, teak-topped aluminium and moulded designs, while Jati Kebon pairs powder-coated aluminium frames with durable ceramic tops. Portico brings a bolder, more architectural look, sculptural designs in glass-fibre reinforced concrete.

Materials Made for the Outdoors

Each material brings a different look and feel to an outdoor dining table, along with its own character outdoors.

Solid Teak

The hero timber of outdoor dining, with natural warmth and a honey tone that softens to a silver-grey patina over time. We use A-grade Indonesian teak, grown in sustainable planted forests and rich in the natural oils that help it resist splitting and weathering. Some tables pair a teak top with a powder-coated aluminium base, combining warmth with a lighter, more contemporary frame.

Powder-Coated Aluminium

The hero timber of outdoor dining, with natural warmth and a honey tone that softens to a silver-grey patina over time. We use A-grade Indonesian teak, grown in sustainable planted forests and rich in the natural oils that help it resist splitting and weathering. Some tables pair a teak top with a powder-coated aluminium base, combining warmth with a lighter, more contemporary frame.

Ceramic

Hard-wearing, heat-resistant and easy to wipe clean, standing up to spills, sun and everyday use without fading or marking. Paired with an aluminium base, it is a practical, low-maintenance choice for a table that sees plenty of use.

Concrete

A bolder, more architectural presence. Our concrete tables are made from glass-fibre reinforced concrete, keeping them strong and more manageable than solid concrete, in a striking form.

Looking for a Smaller Table?

If you are furnishing a balcony, courtyard or a quiet corner, a bistro table may suit better than a full dining table. Smaller, cafe-style tables at standard dining height, designed to pair with a couple of dining chairs for an intimate setting.

Common Questions About Outdoor Dining Tables

What size outdoor dining table do I need?

Choose a table sized for the number of people you seat most often, then check it fits your space with chairs pulled out. As a general guide, allow around 60 to 70 centimetres of table edge per person. That means a four-seat table is around 120 to 140 centimetres long, a six-seat table around 180 to 200 centimetres, and an eight-seat table around 220 to 260 centimetres. For round tables, a 110 centimetre table comfortably seats four and a 150 centimetre table seats six. Always measure your space first, and allow room to move around the table once everyone is seated.

How much space do I need around an outdoor dining table?

Leave around 90 centimetres of clearance on all sides of the table so chairs can be pulled out and people can move comfortably. It helps to measure your whole outdoor dining area first, then account for the space chairs take up once they are pulled out, not just where the table sits. Marking the footprint on the ground before you buy is a simple way to check a table will work in your space.

Are extendable outdoor dining tables worth it?

For many homes, yes. An extendable table gives you a compact everyday size that opens up when you are entertaining, which makes it a flexible choice if your space is limited or the number of people you seat varies. Our extendable Vigo, for example, extends up to 3300mm, seating a large group when you need it and tucking back down day to day. When measuring for an extendable table, always allow for its fully extended size.

Round or rectangular outdoor dining table, which is better?

Both work, and it comes down to your space and how you like to entertain. Round tables suit smaller or square spaces, encourage conversation as everyone sits an equal distance apart, and are easy to move around as there are no corners. Rectangular tables suit longer decks and larger groups, and offer more surface for serving. Many homes choose based on the shape of the area and the number of people they seat most often.

What is the best material for an outdoor dining table?

The best material depends on how the table will be used and the look you are after. Teak brings natural warmth and ages beautifully, and is rich in oils that resist weathering. Powder-coated aluminium is light, rust-resistant and low-maintenance, which suits coastal sites. Ceramic tops are heat-resistant and easy to wipe clean, ideal for a table that sees plenty of everyday use. Glass-fibre reinforced concrete brings a bold, architectural look. Many tables combine materials, such as a teak or ceramic top on an aluminium base.

Can an outdoor dining table stay outside all year?

Yes. Teak and powder-coated aluminium tables, along with ceramic and glass-fibre reinforced concrete tops, are made to stay outdoors year-round. A regular clean helps prevent dirt and grime settling in, and in exposed or coastal spots, a little extra care goes a long way.
